Israel Conducts Dozens of Strikes on Gaza City Amid Ceasefire Talks, Civil Defence Says

In the heart of Gaza, where life hangs by a thread and hope flickers faintly, the night was pierced once again by the roar of airstrikes. Gaza’s civil defence agency reported that Israel launched dozens of attacks on Gaza City and surrounding areas, despite a recent ceasefire proposal backed by former US President Donald Trump and tentatively accepted by Hamas.

“It was a very violent night,” said Mahmud Bassal, a spokesman for Gaza’s civil defence. “The Israeli army carried out airstrikes and artillery shelling all over Gaza City and other areas, even after President Trump called to halt the bombing.” His voice, filled with urgency, reflects the pain of a city pushed beyond its limits.

The rescue teams, operating under extreme danger, reported that at least 20 homes were destroyed overnight. “The situation in Gaza City is extremely serious,” Bassal added. “We are unable to reach many of the injured due to the presence of tanks and the continuous shelling.”

Hospitals Overwhelmed
At Baptist Hospital in Gaza City, emergency rooms were flooded with casualties from a strike in the Tuffah neighbourhood. Four lives were lost, and several others were wounded. Meanwhile, in Khan Yunis, a drone strike on a tent sheltering displaced Gazans claimed the lives of two children and wounded eight more, according to Nasser Hospital.

While the Israeli military acknowledged receiving reports of overnight strikes, it said it was still “checking” the details.

The Peace Proposal
The proposed ceasefire plan — initiated by Trump and supported by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu — outlines a three-day truce, the release of hostages, Hamas’s disarmament, and a phased Israeli withdrawal from Gaza. Hamas has expressed its readiness to cooperate, indicating a willingness to release hostages while also seeking a role in determining Gaza’s future.

A Cry Beyond Headlines
What is happening in Gaza is not just about politics or power — it’s about human lives, lost childhoods, and a daily battle to survive. Each airstrike isn’t just another headline — it’s a shattered home, a grieving parent, a child who may never wake up.

Let’s not forget: peace is more than a plan; it’s a choice. One that must be made before more innocent lives are lost in the rubble of endless war.
