Traffic Diversions Across Klang Valley for ASEAN Summit 2025: What You Need to Know
The Klang Valley is set for temporary traffic diversions as Malaysia hosts the 47th ASEAN Summit 2025 from October 26 to 28, marking the nation’s chairmanship finale under the theme “Inclusivity and Sustainability.”
From October 17 to 29, six major highways and 25 major roads across the Klang Valley will undergo phased diversions to accommodate the movement of international delegates and dignitaries.
According to Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri, the affected highways include:
-
North-South Expressway Central Link (ELITE)
-
New Klang Valley Expressway (NKVE)
-
Guthrie Corridor Expressway
-
North-South Expressway
-
MEX Highway
-
KL-Seremban Expressway
In addition, several main city roads such as Jalan Istana, Jalan Damansara, Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Ampang, Jalan Sultan Ismail, Jalan Bukit Bintang, Jalan Parlimen, and Jalan Kuching will also experience temporary diversions.
To ensure order and safety, 1,111 traffic officers and personnel will be deployed throughout the summit period for traffic control, VIP escorts, and enforcement operations.
A full-scale motorcade rehearsal will also take place from October 17 to 24, covering routes from KLIA’s Bunga Raya Complex and Subang Air Base to major hotels, the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC), and Seri Negara.
Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri urged the public to avoid affected routes and use public transport options like the MRT, LRT, monorail, or RapidKL buses during this time.
Special access will be provided to media personnel, healthcare workers, and essential service staff with valid passes—but if a VIP convoy is en route, traffic flow will temporarily halt for security reasons.
This year’s ASEAN Summit is expected to welcome world leaders including U.S. President Donald Trump, Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, among others.
As Malaysia prepares to take the global stage, the event highlights the nation’s capability, discipline, and commitment to fostering regional cooperation — a proud moment for every Malaysian to witness history in motion.
