A routine flight turned into a terrifying ordeal for 156 passengers aboard Air India flight AI 379 on Friday morning, as a bomb threat forced the plane to make an emergency landing back in Phuket, Thailand.
The flight had taken off from the popular island destination at 9:30 AM local time, heading for New Delhi. But not long after takeoff, the crew received a bomb threat onboard—a moment that transformed a peaceful journey into one filled with fear and uncertainty.
As a precaution, the aircraft made a wide loop over the Andaman Sea before returning to Phuket, guided by emergency protocols. Passengers, some visibly shaken, were safely evacuated and escorted from the aircraft by airport officials who quickly sprang into action.
“We were just settling in, and then everything changed,” said one passenger, recounting the moment the cabin crew informed them of the emergency. “You hear about these things in the news, but when it happens to you, it’s surreal.”
Airports of Thailand (AOT), which oversees Phuket International Airport, confirmed the threat was received while the aircraft was already in the air. Although the nature of the threat remains undisclosed, AOT officials say all necessary security procedures were followed to ensure passenger safety.
Authorities are now investigating the source of the threat, while passengers have been provided with support and updates as they await further arrangements.
Though no injuries were reported, the emotional impact of such an incident was clear. For many, it was a reminder of how quickly life can shift—and how vital swift action and preparedness are in moments of crisis.
