China and India Reconnect the Skies After Years of Silence — A New Chapter Begins

After nearly five long years of suspended air connections, China and India are once again opening their skies. Starting November 9, travelers will finally see a revival of direct commercial flights between the two nations — a move that signals not just the return of tourism and business, but the rekindling of people-to-people connections that were frozen since 2019.

China Eastern Airlines has confirmed that it will resume its Shanghai–Delhi commercial flights, as revealed on the airline’s online ticket platform. Meanwhile, India’s Ministry of External Affairs has officially announced that bilateral air travel will recommence, marking a milestone in regional cooperation and post-pandemic recovery efforts.

Adding to the momentum, IndiGo, India’s largest carrier, has unveiled plans for daily non-stop flights between Kolkata and Guangzhou, further strengthening connectivity and boosting trade and tourism opportunities across Asia.

This long-awaited development is more than a logistical restart — it’s a step toward rebuilding trust, encouraging cross-border collaboration, and reigniting the human connections that make diplomacy meaningful. The skies that once divided are now becoming bridges once again.
