KUALA LUMPUR: In a heartfelt message following his working visit to South Korea, Malaysia’s Works Minister, Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi, expressed strong interest in deepening ties with Korea Expressway Corporation (KEC) — a move aimed at building smarter, safer, and more sustainable highways back home.

Reflecting on his visit, which took place during the 2025 Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) Asia Pacific Forum, Nanta shared his admiration for how South Korea is leading the way in digital highway management. “What I saw in South Korea was more than just cutting-edge expressways. It was a glimpse into what’s possible when innovation meets purpose,” he wrote in a Facebook post on Tuesday (May 27).

KEC, the agency managing over 5,000 kilometers of expressways across South Korea, showcased a forward-thinking approach — using artificial intelligence, big data analytics, and integrated traffic systems not just to improve road safety and efficiency, but also to align infrastructure with environmental goals.

“I was truly impressed by how KEC has embraced technology in every corner of its operations — from predictive maintenance to smart traffic flow,” Nanta said. “There’s much we can learn, especially as we shape our own future through the Malaysian ITS Roadmap 2030.”

He emphasized that meaningful partnerships like these could play a pivotal role in Malaysia’s transformation toward an intelligent, integrated transport system that serves both people and the planet.

Grateful for the warm welcome in Korea, Nanta also thanked KEC’s Managing Director Lim Chan Soo and his team for their hospitality and meaningful discussions.

“As we look ahead, I am hopeful this budding relationship between Malaysia and Korea Expressway Corporation will grow stronger — paving the way for next-generation expressways that are safer, smarter, and greener for all Malaysians,” he added.
