Malaysia to Open Doors for Pakistan’s Meat Exports Worth Up to US$200 Million

In a significant stride towards boosting bilateral trade ties, Malaysian Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced that Malaysia will open its market to agricultural and livestock products from Pakistan — particularly beef and other meat products — with an expected export value of up to US$200 million.

Speaking at a joint press conference during the official visit of Pakistani Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to Malaysia, Anwar emphasized the commitment of both countries to enhancing economic cooperation, particularly in the agri-food sector.

Malaysia has already increased its import of rice from Pakistan, and meat appears to be the next major trade focus.

“There is an interest to export beef and meat into Malaysia. We will facilitate this, of course,” Anwar said, acknowledging Pakistan’s readiness to offer competitive pricing.

He added, “Since you (Shehbaz) have assured us that the prices will be competitive, we will certainly do what is necessary to facilitate the meat export worth up to US$200 million.”

This development not only strengthens economic ties but also reflects mutual trust in each other’s agricultural standards and trade potential.
