In a heartening move that speaks volumes about changing times, the town of Pulwama is finally seeing a dream take shape—a safe, green, and peaceful space dedicated exclusively to women.
Nestled in the serene Sirnoo area on the town’s outskirts, this upcoming all-women park is more than just a public infrastructure project—it’s a long-overdue answer to the quiet hope of thousands of women who have had nowhere to unwind, walk freely, or simply breathe without hesitation in a public space.
The initiative, spearheaded by the Municipal Council Pulwama, comes with strong administrative backing and a fund of Rs 2 crore under the 15th Finance Commission Grants. What makes it truly special is its vision: a place tailored to women’s needs. The plan includes walking tracks shaded by trees, cozy green seating areas for conversations and reflection, open-air gyms for health-conscious visitors, and more—all designed with comfort and safety in mind.
The momentum behind the project owes much to PDP leader and local MLA Waheed ur Rehman Parra. Having identified the land himself, Parra has passionately advocated for inclusive urban spaces. “It’s about dignity, it’s about well-being, and it’s about giving women what they’ve deserved for decades—space,” he said during an informal interaction.
The Municipal Council has already written to the Deputy Commissioner, requesting urgent demarcation of 10 kanals of land to begin development.
For many in Pulwama, the news feels personal. Nuzhat Jan, a local resident, expressed what many feel: “We’ve waited a long time for a space where women can walk, laugh, and just be themselves without judgment. I hope this park becomes that sanctuary.”
As the groundwork begins, this project isn’t just building a park—it’s planting the seeds of equality, dignity, and community well-being in the heart of Pulwama.
