Community Leaders Push for Urgent Improvements in School Safety and Infrastructure at SMDC Meeting

Wuyan, Pampore, August 10, 2024 – The Government Boys High School in Wuyan, a historic institution established in 1952, hosted a pivotal School Management Development Committee (SMDC) meeting today. The meeting, led by Manzoor Ahmad Mir, Principal of HSS Ladhoo and DDO of HS Wuyan, brought together key stakeholders, including Yasmeena Yaqoob, Head of Institution at BHS Wuyan, and other esteemed educators and community figures.

A central focus of the meeting was the urgent need to address critical safety and infrastructure issues plaguing the school. Attendees raised serious concerns about the absence of fencing around the school premises, which currently leaves the school exposed on all four sides, posing a significant safety risk to the students. The group unanimously called for the immediate construction of a secure fence.

Another pressing issue discussed was the lack of a playground, which has hindered the school’s ability to offer adequate physical education and recreational opportunities. Participants proposed that expanding the school grounds and creating a playground could be achieved by relocating the adjacent road, a suggestion met with support from the community.

Dr. Bilal Ahmad Bhat, a notable alumnus and global business leader, actively participated in the discussions, pledging to escalate these concerns to higher authorities for prompt resolution. He also urged the Wuyan community to take responsibility for maintaining the cleanliness of the school and its surroundings, emphasizing the importance of civic duty.

In his remarks, Dr. Bhat praised the dedication of the school’s teachers and staff, acknowledging their vital role in shaping the future of the students and the community. He highlighted the impact of passionate educators, stating, “A great teacher not only imparts knowledge but also ignites a lifelong passion for learning.”

Supporting Dr. Bhat’s views, Manzoor Ahmad Mir underscored the value of education, quoting Perseus: “Education is a controlling grace to the young, consolation to the old, wealth to the poor, and ornament to the rich.” He emphasized the importance of community support for government schools and encouraged the enrollment of more children in these institutions.

The meeting concluded with a firm commitment from all participants to address the challenges facing Govt. Boys High School Wuyan and to work collectively toward enhancing the safety and learning environment for the students.
